Montenegro is leading in terms of growth in the sphere of tourism

According to the experts of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), Montenegro takes the first place in the world in terms of growth of the tourism industry.

In the report, the World Travel & Tourism Council has analyzed tendency of growth in the tourism sector in 184 countries. Montenegro, where tourism is a strategic sector of the economy, takes the first place in the world, according to the most important indicators.

In 2013, the direct and indirect incomes from the tourism industry in Montenegro reached 714.2 million euros, which is 20 percent of gross domestic product. According to the prognosis of the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism of Montenegro, in 2014 we can expect an increase of 13.2 percent. In the next 10 years, the income from the tourism will grow about 9 percent annually.

The development of the tourism sector is focused on attracting investments, including the foreign ones. In 2013, investment in the tourism sector reached the record of 208.3 million euros, which represents 28 percent of total investments in the country.

According to the predication of the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism, this year's investment in the tourism industry will grow by 14.3 percent. Within 10 years, it will reach approximately 550 million euros.

-Last year, 14500 working places had been opened directly from the sphere of tourism, or 8.8 percent of the total number of jobs created in the country. The total contribution of the tourism industry and air transportation in the sphere of employment of the population in Montenegro was 18.3 percent. It is expected that in 2014 this figure will increase by 14 percent.
